Smatphones are not only phones, they are much more: they are small computers.
Support must be adapted to support computers, not just phones: device management, updates, security, authentication, etc.
Like modern computers, you must manage both personal data (photos, music, videos, games) and business data (emails, contacts, busines applications, corporate settings).
For example, in the past, a lost phone just required to block outcoming calls, and provide a replacement device. Now, in cas of a smartphone lost, you have to manage backups!
Telecom companies have to move to the next maturity level (?) and still ensure standadisation, in order to maintain their cost efficiency.
